Plastics

Of course I would like to decorate my miniature shops and furnish my dollhouses, if possible with the accessories and furniture as originally used by the manufacturers.

A good source of information is a toys catalogue in which an OKWA dollhouse or a SIO dollhouse is offered. The dollhouses in these toys catalogues are mostly furnished with plastic furniture made by "JEAN" or "Modella".

The JEAN furniture was made in Germany. The address of the firm was printed on the boxes. The factory closed at the end of the 20th century.
The Modella furniture was also made in Germany. On the boxes you can sometimes find "Made in W.-Germany". The name of the manufacturer is not mentioned.

I also possess a few plastic furniture sets, unmarked but packed in boxes marked "MADE IN HOLLAND". The furniture, made of hard and fragile plastic is very small. According to the way in which the boxes are printed, I presume that the furniture was made around 1950. The text on the boxes is in English. In an American book about tin litho dollhouses and their plastic furnishings made in America I saw 'my furniture', and I therefore doubt that the furniture was really made in the Netherlands.
